ABENDRUHE ist ein Angebot in den Raum Kirche zu kommen und dort für eine Weile Ruhe zu finden, den Monat, die Woche, den Tag revue passieren zu lassen. Im Anschluß an das Konzert gibt es im Pfarrsaal die Gelegenheit zum gemeinsamen Ausklang.

Ulrich Maiss | "STONE" für Cello und Elektronik | Konzert am 06.06.2015 um 17 Uhr

Im Rahmen des Seminars Garten Rätsel - Die Spur der Steine kommt meine neue Komposition STONE am 06.06.2015 in den Künstlerischen Werkstätten Trebel zur Uraufführung.

Inspiriert von den Zeichnungen John Cages nähert sich Ulrich Maiß auf neuen Wegen dem Rätsel Ryoanji.

In seiner Komposition für präpariertes Violoncello und interaktive Elektronik mit dem Titel STONE nimmt er die ursprüngliche Motivation Cages auf, sich mit dem Steingarten auseinanderzusetzen.

ABENDRUHE Januar 2014

Heute, am 26 .Januar 2014, findet die Abendruhe zum ersten Mal an einem anderen Ort statt.

Um 20 Uhr erklingt in Sankt Martin, Kirchgandern die Suite No. I für Violoncello solo von Johann Sebastian Bach. Nach einer Lesung dann Timotheus für BassCello und Elektronik.

Im Anschluß gibt es die Möglichkeit zum Gespräch.

ABENDRUHE zum Jahresende - 29.12.2013 - 20 Uhr

Zum Jahresende lädt Ulrich Maiß zu einer abendfüllenden Veranstaltung bei Wein und Tee in die Dorfkirche Reiffenhausen ein.

Am 29. Dezember 2013 erklingt von 20 bis 24 Uhr Musik für Cello und Elektronik.

Zu hören sein werden Werke von J.S.Bach, Gilles Binchois, Zülfü Livaneli und Ulrich Maiß.
Während der zweiten Hälfte des Abends (ab 22 Uhr) stellt Ulrich Maiß sein neues Projekt MORPHOGENESIS vor.

ABENDRUHE ist ein Angebot in den Raum "Kirche" zu kommen und dort für eine 

Weile Ruhe zu finden, den Monat, die Woche, den Tag revue passieren zu lassen, dabei der Musik zuzuhören und sich durch Texte inspirieren zu lassen.

In der ABENDRUHE am 29.09. ist Violinist Christoph Daub, Mitglied der Neuen Philharmonie Westfalen und des Ensemble 90  in der Dorfkirche Reiffenhausen zu Gast. 

Gemeinsam präsentieren er und Ulrich Maiß (Violoncello) Werke von Cirri, Platti, Grieg u.a.

Der Eintritt ist frei, um eine Spende wird am Ausgang gebeten.

My ears

In 2001 I had what is known as idiopathic sudden sensorineural hearing loss.
Since then I was sure that my ears had permanent damage and I experienced the results of the damage daily.
Yesterday I went to have my ears checked, contemplating a hearing aid.
The result of the test: I hear as well as a child. My ears went back to normal without me noticing...
How's that for a good start into the new year?

Abendruhe Nachlese

Ich habe mich sehr gefreut, daß am 30.12.2012 so viele geneigte Zuhörer in die Dorfkirche gekommen sind.
Das gerade begonnene Jahr 2013 wird mich wieder regelmäßig in der Kirche sehen - wie immer am letzten Sonntag jeden Monats. Und dieses Jahr mit restauriertem Instrument, dank der großzügigen Unterstützung durch meine Zuhörer.
Allen ein Gutes Neues Jahr!

Abendruhe zum Jahresende

Am 30.12.2012 findet in der Dorfkirche Reiffenhausen mein Abendruhe-Marathon statt.

Zwischen 20 Uhr bis 24 Uhr spiele ich in ca. 45-minütigen Blöcken Werke von Bach und eigene Kompositionen für Cello und Elektronik. Zwischen den Stücken liest Friederike Sidio christliche und buddhistische Texte.
Wein und Tee werden für die Zuhörer angeboten.

Have you ever been...

"Have You Ever Been" is based on the melody of "Have You Ever Been (to Electric Lady Land)".
It is an homage to Jimi Hendrix, premiered on his 69th birthday on November 27 2011.
On the basis of auxiliary sounds from Jimi Hendrix' recordings (mainly noise and hums) and the notes of the melody of "Have you ever been (to Electric Lady Land)" the cello explores the regions between noise and feedback.
This solo piece for prepared cello and electronics is dedicated to my friend and older brother Christof Hartmann.

Lulu - Lou Reed & Metallica

LULU (the album by Lou Reed & Metallica you all probably heard about) is out now since over a month. Sadly, a pretty bad typo has not been corrected in time: Ulrich Maas plays the cello on two of the titles. Well, there is no cellist by that name - it is me, Ulrich Maiss who performs on that CD.

Maybe future editions will be corrected, so this here is just for the record…

Also, I did not play any string arrangements. I was in the studio with Lou in March recording improvisations. Call it "instant composing" if you like. It was a very creative and intimate process which led to the music for the play "LULU" directed by Robert Wilson.
The material on "Little Dog" and "Frustration" comes from these sessions.

So, finally, after almost 2 months the spelling of my name has been corrected online…wow!

Morphogenesis

This is going to be the title of my next release.

Currently I am working on recording and mixing the tracks.

MORPHOGENESIS will be an eclectic mix of noise, improv and groove.
It is all cello - no synthetic stuff, but LOTS of FX.
The arrangements for Zülfü Livaneli's music, as well as for the music from different North-American native tribes are all mine, as are the compositions and improvisations.
